Photoshop Beginners Tutorial Pen Tool Page 2

————————————

7.Now we need to make the body of our character a little bit bigger. While you still have the Pen Tool selected, Hold the CTRL key and Click on your CUSTOM SHAPE. The CTRL key for the Pen Tool is like the Clutch for a Manual car, in most cases it needs to be pressed before ‘driving’ the Pen Tool.

While still holding the CTRL key, move your mouse to the EDGE of the custom shape and Click. If this is done correctly it should bring up the HANDLES (guide lines) and POINTS (the tiny boxes on the edge line). Keep the CTRL key pressed, Click on the point at the base of the custom shape and drag it around. Release the mouse button and CTRL key when you have dragged it down to match the below image.

8. In the layers palette (right sidebar) Click on the NEW LAYER button.

9. In the left hand sidebar, Double Click and change the Foreground Colour to White. This will be the eyes of the character.

10. Now we create the eyes. This will all be about Clicking, Holding and Dragging. As per the image, Click in circle 1, hold the mouse button down and drag to circle 2 then release. Click in circle 3, hold the mouse button down and drag to circle 4 then release. You should now have something similar to the image below.

11. To CLOSE the shape, Click on the first point.

12. Now that you have one eye, we want to DUPLICATE it to save time. I will make it very simple and not worry about perfect symmetry, you will no doubt learn this at a later stage. In the right sidebar, Click the RIGHT mouse button on the shape layer that is active. Click on Duplicate Layer. In the popup box just click OK.

13. It places the duplicate directly on top, so (in the left sidebar) Click on the MOVE TOOL and Drag the duplicate shape to the other side of the body. TIP: Holding the SHIFT Key while dragging will keep it level with the first eye.

14. Time to save the image. Click on File and Save or CTRL key and S.

I walked through the Concrete Jungle. It's heavy dullness surrounded me. I heard a faint sound and stopped to investigate. The Concrete Jungle was alive. It whispered softly to me through its grate-shaped mouth. It quivered with The Fear. The unimaginable fear of fading into the background.

I had to stop this fear from spreading. I splashed my magic wand of colour onto it's dreary landscape. Instantly, the Concrete Jungle exploded with the brightest sunshine imaginable. Its fresh designs drew travellers from around the world. It was now a Feature Piece.

Now, settled that I had changed the course of history for the Concrete Jungle, I set out to impact the heart beat inhabitants that walk amongst. The canvas for my new work comes in many shapes and colours and wraps over these creatures. They wear them with pride, passion and to stand out amongst civilisation.

Welcome, to my playground.
