Photoshop Beginners Tutorial Pen Tool Page 4

20. I’m not putting the guides on the image in this one, I want you to see what it will look like when you do it. Click on the centre of the white eyes and drag the mouse horizontally to the left a little bit. You should have a vertical line at this point. Just above the bottom of the white eye, Click to make another point, hold the mouse button and drag the mouse to the right a little bit. The horizontal lines should be about the same length. To CLOSE the oval, Click back on the first point. If you have done it correctly it should be a nice oval. There are much easier ways to make an oval, but I want you to get used to creating things from scratch.

21. Duplicate the layer by right clicking on the layer in the right sidebar. Click on the Move tool again and drag the duplicate to where it belongs.

22. CONGRATULATIONS! THERE’S YOUR FIRST VECTOR CHARACTER COMPLETE! WOOHOO! Now we need to resize it…

To resize the image make sure the MOVE Tool is still selected and Click once on a blank area. This will DESELECT the whole image. Now we are going to refer to the image below to do this next step.

To select the WHOLE image Click and Hold in the circle (as per the image below) and Drag the mouse diagonally across your character. Release the mouse button when you reach the same area as the second circle. As you are dragging, you should notice a box with tiny squares on each corner popup inside your selection. You will also see ALL THE LAYERS of the image you have selected, are now highlighted in the layers palette (right sidebar).

As per the below image, Click the Corner of the inside square and drag it out to make it bigger. REMEMBER to HOLD the SHIFT key while dragging to keep the dimensions equal. When you resize it, it will not let you do anything until you tick the little green tick at the top of the page (click the cancel button to return the image to its previous size).

23. To Export the image with or without a TRANSPARENT background, turn off the Background layer’s visibility (right sidebar). Then Click on FILE and SAVE FOR WEB & DEVICES. To save as a JPEG, choose JPEG and MAXIMUM (or whatever Compression Quality you like) and then Click SAVE. A JPEG will save with a white background and will NEVER be transparent. To make a transparent image, choose PNG-24. Make sure the transparency box is selected and then Click SAVE.

Well, there you go. You have now created a Vector Image with the Pen Tool with Custom Shapes and Multiple Layers - I’m impressed! Please take a moment to pass this link on to others who may want to learn the basics of the Pen Tool. Also, it took me 2 mintues to create the character but 4 hours to edit, post and arrange this tutorial, so please support my art by wandering through the home page of Diesellaws.com. Hey, you may even find something you like!

Thanks for your support and good luck in your future vector images!

I walked through the Concrete Jungle. It's heavy dullness surrounded me. I heard a faint sound and stopped to investigate. The Concrete Jungle was alive. It whispered softly to me through its grate-shaped mouth. It quivered with The Fear. The unimaginable fear of fading into the background.

I had to stop this fear from spreading. I splashed my magic wand of colour onto it's dreary landscape. Instantly, the Concrete Jungle exploded with the brightest sunshine imaginable. Its fresh designs drew travellers from around the world. It was now a Feature Piece.

Now, settled that I had changed the course of history for the Concrete Jungle, I set out to impact the heart beat inhabitants that walk amongst. The canvas for my new work comes in many shapes and colours and wraps over these creatures. They wear them with pride, passion and to stand out amongst civilisation.

Welcome, to my playground.
